Interview Techniques

Congratulations on getting your interview.

Many people find interviews the hardest part in the job hunting process. So just to give you that extra bit of confidence we wanted to share with you a few tips to help make sure you are totally prepared. We have also put together a 6 point plan which you can download here to read at your leisure.

Essential Homework
Make sure you are familiar with the company you are going to interview at, where is it, can you park easily etc – you want to aim to get there about 10 minutes early so you have time to check your appearance, take note of your surroundings and not appear flustered. Visit their website to gain a better overall understanding of the company. Also where possible check over the job description for your role so you know exactly what they are looking for. Decide on some potential questions that you want to ask, you don’t need to discuss salary etc we will do all that for you. First impressions count so make sure you are suited and booted.

On the Day
Plan your route to the interview and make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

When you meet your interviewer make plenty of eye contact and give a nice firm hand shake – also make sure you smile!!!!! Make sure you are not too negative about your current/former position as this will put a potential employer off.  Most interviewers have formed their opinion about a candidate in the first minute. Remember you don’t get a second chance to make a great first impression.

Questions ?

They may ask you:
Describe your present Job?
Tell me about yourself?
Why do you want to join our company?
What do you know about our company?
Describe your strengths and weaknesses?
How would your best friend describe you?
What type of environment do you most enjoy working in?
What are your plans for the future and where do you plan to be in five years time?

You could ask:
Is this a new or existing post?
Could you describe a typical day in this role?
Does your company operate a particular dress code?
To whom would I report?
Could I see where I’ll be working?
Are there any job related training programmes?
When will you be making your final decision?
What is the next stage of the interview process?
Do you have any reservations about me?

The End
At the end of the interview it is important to leave your interviewer with a positive image of you so thank them for their time, indicate you have enjoyed meeting them, express your interest in the job and shake their hand firmly and smile when you say goodbye.

Most Important Thing
Remember an interview is as much for you to see if you like the company/role/people as it is for them to see you – it’s a two way thing so enjoy it and give your consultant a call afterwards to let them know your feedback.
